MUST DO'S
There is so much fun & adventure to be had in duluth, MN! Here are some of our favorites.
SPLIT ROCK LIGHTHOUSE
if you've never been, it's a must see! If you want to skip paying admission to the actual lighthouse, just park and walk the paths & surrounding beach. the best view of the lighthouse is from the rock beach below anyway! Did you know, steph went hiking here the day after she met cailen?
THE PORTLAND MALT SHOPPE
a spencer favorite. Steph's parents have loved the portland ever since undergrad at the university of minnesota duluth, where they met. they have been bringing the family here on their way up the shore year after year, for the "best malts in town!"
CANAL PARK
steph makes cailen take her down to "the water" aka canal park, every time they visit duluth! there are so many cute shops and places to eat. you can also stroll the boardwalk and watch the lift bridge rise and lower for a boat to go by!
GRANDMA'S
Stop in for a cup of authentic minnesota wild rice soup! and stay for the bicycle burger or the walley sandwich! Some of steph & cailen's favorites! Pair with an ice cold bent paddle brew or a bloody mary - careful though, this bloddy is topped with pickled fish!
GOOSEBERRY FALLS
"known for its spectacular waterfalls, river gorge, Lake Superior shoreline, Civilian Conservation Corps log and stone structures, and north woods wildlife." Gooseberry falls is a great stop on your way up the shore! Take your shoes off and dip your toes in the falls!
bent paddle brewery
if you're looking for a good brew, it doesn't get much better than bent paddle! tour the facility to see how the beer is made and enjoy the variety of brews they have to offer! when you get hungry, head over to omc smokehouse after!
Park point beach
take a drive across the lift bridge and after a few miles you'll end up at park point, the end of the road. A public beach house and a beautiful sandy beach await you, the sand may be warm, but the water will definitely be cold!
CASTLE DANGER
take a drive up to two harbors and drop by for a beer at castle danger brewery. the cream ale is a hofmann favorite! but be sure to try them all!
omc smokehouse
a spencer + Hofmann favorite! hungry for bbq? head to omc! owned and operated by cailen's friends from duluth, this smokehouse is amazingly delicious! did you know? omc stands for "oink - moo - cluck" clever! take a trip across the street and check out frost river while you wait for your table. there's a great photo op with a giant bear in that store!
Corktown deli
for tasty eats, check out the new corktown deli! owned and operated by friend of the groom, jeff petcoff, it's a must- try! cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, amazing meats... you can't possibly go wrong. Ask for Jeff, and tell him we sent you, he'd be happy to tell you about the history of "corktown." you should also try a knuckle sandwich.. for real!
LESTER PARK GOLF COURSE
One of cailen's favorite courses. always a beautiful view. Lester Park Golf Course is one of two public golf courses located in the port city of Duluth, Minnesota. The original eighteen-hole golf course was made up the north shore of Duluth, near the Lester Park River. Reserve your tee time by calling (218) 525-0830
Duluth kombucha
For those kombucha enthusiasts, like steph, Check out Duluth Kombucha! In 2016, Rachelle Rahn founded Duluth Kombucha. She grew her own mother culture, the notorious SCOBY and every batch of bubbly goodness since then has been produced with a SCOBY from the original mama. The business formed itself quite naturally, and we strive to keep it that way - natural. Using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible and avoiding artificial flavoring or chemically processed products.
